Day 1:
A Friday night cold front killed this weekends fishing. Everyone still
enjoyed fishing big Sam. On Saturday, the tournament started with the air
temp in the mid 60's, water temp in the mid 70's, wind at 20 - 30MPH from the
North, and overcast skies. The first day of the tournament ended with the
air temp in the mid 70's, no change in the water temp, no change in the wind,
and mostly cloudy skies. A total of 26 fish weighed 54.69 pounds.
After the first day, Lorne and Justin were leading with 16
pounds, Ernie and David were second with 11 pounds, and David and Jeromy were
third with 8 pounds. All big bass candidates were caught on
Saturday. Spinner baits and soft plastics seemed to produce the fish for
the leading teams. All but one team fished the lower end of the lake
around Powell Park.
Day 2:
Blue bird skies made the fishing worse on the second day. On Sunday,
the tournament started with the air temp in the mid 60's, water temp in the low
70's, wind at 10 - 15MPH from the North, and clear skies. The second day
of the tournament ended with the air temp in the high 70's, no change in the
water temp, wind at 20 - 30MPH from the North, and blue bird skies. A
total of 20 fish weighed 37.25 pounds. With both days combined, a total of
46 fish weighed 92.95.
All but one team fished the upper end of the lake around Jackson
Hill Marina. David and Jeromy were able to overcome the lead with 7
fish. On day 1, Jeromy was able to support his team by fishing a T-rigged
baby brush hog over hydrilla in 10ft of water on the South end of the
lake. On day 2, David was able to produce a limit by pitching a white
spinner bait tight to trees that were in 2 - 5ft of water on the North end of
the lake. Big bass of the tournament was caught on a white spinner bait
pitched close to over hanging brush on the South end of the lake.
