During road runner tournaments, each team has
their choice of fishing any public accessible lake. Seven teams fished
Lake Austin, one team fished Inks Lake, and one team fished Travis. Austin
was definitely the place to be. There were several 5+ pound fish brought
in. The
day started with the air temp in the low 60's, wind from the SE at 5MPH, and
mostly cloudy skies. The day ended with the air temp in the high 70's, wind
from the SE at 5 - 10MPH, and partly cloudy skies. A total of 51 bass
weighed 139.43.
The tournament was won by the teams that
fished Lake Austin. The first place team reported catching their fish
throughout the day between the 360 bridge and City Park. They were
targeting docks that were close to deep water. Their fish were caught on
watermelon seed flukes, senkos, and trick worms rigged wacky. Their 7
pound fish was caught dead sticking a fluke under a dock. The second place
team reported catching their fish on the lower end of the lake. Most of
the fish were caught on wacky worms around docks and reeds. They also
caught fish on senkos and flukes. Their 6 pound fish was caught on a wacky
worm on a brush pile. Big bass of the tournament was caught on a deep
diving crank bait fished over the 12' grass line.
