Day 1:
This was one of the nicest weather days that we've seen on Fayette. At
the start of the tournament, the air temp was 54, water temp was 66 at the ramp
and 89 in the discharge, wind was light from the N at 5 - 10, and partly cloudy
skies. Day 1 ended with the air temp at 70, water temp at 68, wind was
light from the N at 5 - 10, and partly cloudy skies. Total fish for day 1
was 78 bass weighing 211.31.
Day 2:
Just like last year, we had a 180 in the wind direction for the 2nd day.
At the start of the tournament, the air temp was 57, water temp was 66 at the
ramp and 89 in the discharge, wind from the SE at 10, and clear skies. The
wind increased throughout the day and we experienced gusts up to 30 MPH.
Day 2 ended with the air temp at 79, water temp at 66, wind from the SE at 15 -
20, and clear skies. Total fish for day 2 was 58 bass weighing 150.62.
Total fish for both days of fishing was 136 bass weighing 361.93.
The 2nd place team reported that timing was
the key. They noticed they caught their bigger fish shallow between 6a and
6:30a on day 1 and between 6:30a and 7:00a on day 2. They caught fish
everywhere, but caught most of their fish on the dam and intake. They also
caught fish on a variety of baits, but the best baits were drop shot worms and
black/blue t-rigged worms. After the early bite tapered off, they caught
smaller fish in 15 - 18' of water. The 1st place team caught their biggest
fish at 8:50a on a buzzbait. The rest of their fish were caught on
t-rigged rootbeer/green baby brush hogs. They stated that if you worked
the bait, you did not get bit. You had to make a cast and just let the
bait sit. There was no big bass brought in, so the big bass pot will
rollover to the January tournament.
