Rain!, Rain!, Rain!.
The tournament started under rainy conditions and persisted throughout
the tournament with off and on showers. The air temp ranged from
70 - 85, water temp at 80, wind from the NE at 5 - 25, and overcast
skies. We had minimal wind when the showers subsided, but as
soon as a shower would hit, the wind blew up to 25. A total of
40 bass weighed 69.55.
The 1st place team started
on the notorious road bed on the back side of the island. They
claim they had the area to themselves for about 45 minutes. Eric
started out chunking a Sammy and missed a 5 and a 4 then was able to
pick up a 3 pounder. Dean caught a small keeper on a spinner
bait. After the action died and all the boats started moving in,
they moved to deeper water. They caught the rest of their fish
using watermelon/red finesse worms on the grass edges in 15' of
water. They believe that the key to their success was the 10lb
line. The 2nd place team also fished around the island, but they
were focusing on the short road bed and caught all of their fish on
wacky worms and flukes. Big bass of the tournament was caught
early on a shallow diving crank bait over the grass around the island.
