It's always fun to fish Austin in
the Spring - You never know how many big fish will be brought to the
scales. The tournament started with the air temp at 64, water
temp at 61 (360), a light breeze from the N, and cloudy skies.
The tournament ended with the air temp at 74, water temp at 62 (360),
wind from the N at 15 - 20, and partly cloudy skies. A total of
65 bass weighed 166.49.
One of the members of the 1st place
team was able to pre-fish the entire week before the tournament - and
it paid off! During pre-fishing, David found some bedding fish.
They started in this area and were able to catch some good fish half
way back in the cut on a flat using light weight Texas rigged lizards.
Their big fish was caught on the lower end on a light weight Carolina
rig. As the day progressed, they moved out to deeper water (15 -
18') and caught fish on Carolina rigs. The 2nd place team used
light tackle (8 pound line) and a slow presentation in less the 10' of
water. They caught fish on docks that were close to grass on the
main lake. They used red shad when the sun was shielded by the
clouds and watermelon when the sun was shining through. Big bass
of the tournament was caught on the lower end in less than 2' of water
on a wacky rigged watermelon red senko.
