With a chilly start, 30 anglers
enjoyed an uncommonly peaceful day on Lake Austin. According
to most anglers, as the day warmed up, the bite slowed down.
Many teams had the majority of their stringers before 11a.
Most anglers thought that this tournament would be a sight fishing
slug fest, but mother nature stalled the bedding activities. A total of 56 fish weighed 170.28.
The 1st place team and big bass winners started around Quinlan and
worked their way down lake. They caught several dinks around
the grass and then finally picked up their first keeper when they
started chunking crank baits around rocks. The rest of the
day, they alternated between Senkos around the grass and crank
baits around the rocks. The one exception was the big bass
which was caught on a jig.
The 2nd place team started the day using 10" power worms and
spinner baits. As the day progressed, they switched to
Senkos and caught all of their fish in less than 6' of water
around grass.
The 3rd place team noted an early bite while dead sticking Senkos
in 12-16' of water. They had 6 fish before 8:30a before
their bite died. They spent the rest of the day hunting for
2 more keepers that they never found. |
